Title: The Growing Threat of Mobile Scams and the Role of Telecommunication Operators in Protecting Users

Abstract: The rapid evolution of mobile communication technologies has significantly improved global connectivity while simultaneously expanding the attack surface for cybercriminals. Mobile networks have become primary targets for fraudulent activities, including voice phishing (vishing), SMS phishing (smishing), caller ID spoofing, and social engineering attacks that exploit users through voice calls, text messages, and over-the-top (OTT) communication platforms. This paper examines the increasing prevalence of mobile scams and analyzes the strategic role of telecommunication operators in preventing, detecting, and mitigating such threats. It provides an overview of modern mobile network architecture, emphasizing the interaction between radio access networks, core network components, operational support systems, and value-added services that enable security monitoring and threat intelligence. Furthermore, the study discusses how advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, real-time traffic analytics, anomaly detection, and collaborative threat intelligence, enhance the capability of operators to identify suspicious activities before they reach end users. Particular attention is given to the importance of regulatory compliance, inter-operator cooperation, and user awareness as complementary elements of an effective cybersecurity strategy. The findings highlight that protecting users against increasingly sophisticated mobile scams requires a coordinated approach combining technological innovation, proactive network security mechanisms, institutional collaboration, and continuous public education to strengthen the resilience of modern mobile communication ecosystems.
